review:
1-This jacket is true to Dainese quality. It does not sacrifice safety and remains a very stylish and comfortable. I forget I have it on, actually. I wanted to just rip my last jacket off as soon as I got on the bike. I am small, in general and it is hard to find gear that fits well. I do have a large chest, so I had to get a very slim back protector make have this fit properly, but that's ok! I think most people who would wear it around my size would have more back protector options. It could be longer in back, but Dainese has an extension for your lower back which easily zips in. The jacket is warm, but not too warm for hot weather, for me anyway. The leather is very smooth and soft, not typical of a lot of jackets. I like this because I don't think it is less durable, and it is not bulky. Adjustable tabs on both side make waist able to very very snug. Contours are nice, stitched "rat face" between shoulder blades is also good looking. :)
2-Not sure how cold it could be outside before you'd need additional layers, but removable thermal lining provides some flexibility for warmer temperatures. Leather is going to be warmer than textile no matter how you slice it, but after removing the thermal liner and opening all the vents (shoulder, arm, back), it's not uncomfortable while moving.
Fit is good. I'm 5'2" with a 30" waist and 36" bust, and got a small. Shoulder/elbow armor falls in exactly the right place. As with many riding jackets, the torso shape, padding, and curved arms look good while you're on the bike, but it looks a little "off" if you're just walking around. Unzipping the front helps, but I guess if you're not shopping specifically for a *riding* jacket then you wouldn't even be looking at this.
In terms of "while sitting on a motorcycle" style, I would classify this as a standard or sport bike jacket than a cruiser jacket. Being longer in the back, it falls more naturally when you're bent forward a bit on a slightly sportier standard bike (like mine) or hunched over the tank of a real sport bike. Sitting in the typical "cruiser" position, the whole torso area bunches up and just looks weird.
I am overall very pleased with this purchase. Nice to find a good, protective leather jacket without emptying my bank account!
3-Finally – a jacket that fits my long/skinny torso and monkey arms right off the rack! I wear a size 40 and I have a 32.5 inch chest. It is snug with a back protector and thinner fleecy top underneath. If you want to layer more underneath get your charted size.
The good:
- Jacket is far more comfortable, and less restrictive, than it looks. Moves really well on the bike.
- Zipper vents on upper sleeves work really well (air even goes to the pits!) and easy to open/close with gloves on.
- I like the bubble liner a lot. I get cold all the time and swear that this helps to shield me from cold penetrating the jacket (cold meaning 60 degrees).. I’ve not worn this in really hot weather (so far only low 60’s to 70’s) yet
- It’s snug and sexy.
Me being persnickety:
- The front zip seems a bit thin and I wish they would have used a metal zipper. Can be changed out.- Collar snap is hard to close
Conclusion: LOVE this jacket! I am taking this out more than my other jackets when the weather cooperates. The jacket is very stylish with good protection.
