Wilsons Leather was a U.S. leather retailer, selling products such as jackets, belts, shoes, handbags, and gloves. At its peak in 2002, the Minneapolis-based retailer had 763 stores in 46 states and Canada.[1]
The company began as two separate leather apparel manufacturer-retailers: Berman Buckskin, founded in 1899 and known for its fringed buckskin shirts and jackets,[2] and Wilsons House of Suede, founded in the late 1940s and known for its affordable suede and leather apparel.
Wilsons House of Suede and Leather was acquired by Melville Corporation in 1982. After Melville purchased Bermans from W. R. Grace and Company,[3] it merged the two retailers under the Wilsons Leather name in summer of 1986. Melville added new acquisition Georgetown Leather Design to the division in 1993 and operated Wilsons Leather until 1996, when it sold Wilsons to a management-led investor group.[4]The newly independent Wilsons Leather filed IPO plans in October 1996 to raise $42 million, but went public in May 1997 with a scaled-back target of $10 million.[5] After launching an online store in 1999,[6] Wilsons expanded into luggage and travel items by acquiring El Portal,[7] Bentley's Luggage[8] and California Luggage Outlet. The 135 travel stores were closed in late 2002 after several quarters of losses.[1]
The company refocused in 2003, reducing their product offerings and closing several dozen underperforming stores.[9] The company scaled back its operations again in 2004, laying off about 1,000 employees and closing nearly 100 stores.[10] At the beginning of 2004, Wilsons operated 598 stores, down from 763 in November 2002. The company continued paring back its number of stores, to 453 by October 2004 and 428 by December 2005. More closings in 2007 brought the total number of Wilsons stores to 411 by October 2007. The closure of 160 stores was announced in February 2008[11] and by May 2008, the company operated 228 stores in 39 states.
In July 2008, the company sold the Wilsons brand name, online store and 116 outlet stores to G-III Apparel Group. The company formerly known as Wilsons changed its name to PreVu Inc..[12] PreVu was delisted by NASDAQ on August 4, 2008, then announced it was going out of business on August 14, 2008 and would liquidate its 100 mall stores by October.[13] Its outlet stores remain open.Wilsons Leather is the largest specialty retailer of leather apparel and accessories in the United States. That kind of rounds it up. We have probably been that for the last 10 years. Since 1989, they ve owned a dominant share of the leather apparel market, somewhere between 15% and 20% of all leather apparel sold in the United States [and] they see our market share increasing. A much smaller percentage is our accessory business because that's a much bigger business.they run a number of divisions. they have our mall-based stores, which carry apparel and accessories. they have 32 airport stores, which are accessories and executive accessories. they have an outlet division which includes two types of outlet stores: one is an accessory outlet store presently called Wallet-works -- about 40 of those -- and then they have Wilson Leather outlet stores in the big mall projects. they have just started an expansion program in the manufacturers' outlet malls.
reviews:
1-I bought this jacket about a year ago as my first riding jacket. It suits my half-commuter half-weekend warrior riding style very well. I'm a huge fan of the removable liner. With it I was able to use the jacket down to about 35-40 degrees in adequate warmth. When summer rolls around take a whopping 20 seconds, and the liner is out. Ventilation and air-flow is pretty good at all speeds except a standstill. At that point it gets a little toasty, which is kind of expected when wearing a fully sleeved cow-hide jacket of any kind. I'm about 6ft and skinny, and the size 38 is a perfect fit. I also love the classic style of the jacket, along with the fact that I didn't have to sell my bike to afford it. After one riding season there is no visible wear on the jacket. Overall it is made very well, and I expect it to last many more miles.
2-This is a really nice jacket for any occasion, I wear it all the time riding or not. I probably wear it more off the bike then on. I use the River Road Vise more when riding due to the fact that it has armor which I upgraded.

Designer Leather Jackets

A leather jacket isn’t so much an item of clothing as an extension of your character. More so than any other garment you own, your choice says something about you – so don’t go writing checks your personality can’t cash. There are five or six main styles to choose from when looking to buy a leather jacket. Perhaps the most famous is the “double riders,” aka the classic biker jacket made famous by everyone from James Dean to The Ramones. A true staple of rebel attire, for many the iconic Schott 613 Perfecto is the only name you need to know in this category, although many others exist. Several decades worth of under-nourished rockstars have proven just how great it looks with skinny black denim, although it can be fleshed out for bulkier frames when worn over a hoodie, a la Mr. West. Check out ASOS, Surface To Air, Acne and Givenchy for a range of products and prices. For a sportier look, the “motocross” (also known as the “cafĂ© racer”) jacket does away with all unnecessary zips, studs and epaulettes for a deliberately streamlined fit that was originally intended to minimize drag while racing at high speeds. Its naturally figure-hugging cut means this style should really only be worn over a T-shirt or other slim underlayer. Diesel make a decent affordable option, while Lanvin, Phillip Plein and Saint Laurent are at the other end of the spectrum.
Similar in shape to the moto, although with a very different history, the classic “bomber” is more likely to be thickly lined (to keep those pilots warm at 10,000 feet), and usually features an elasticated collar, hem and cuffs made from cotton or wool. Check Anerkjendt, All Saints and Alexandre Mattiusi for examples, along with this headturner from Hood By Air. Meanwhile, the College jacket is a popular subversion of this style (seen here in this piece from Beams Plus) that features a wool body and leather sleeves.Elsewhere, the “fencing” jacket is a slim, form-fitting option that incorporates a high turtle-neck collar that opens out when unzipped. Rick Owens is pretty much the father of this look and you shouldn’t attempt it unless you own a lot of black. For something a little more street, a handful of designers have begun incorporating leather hoods directly into their jackets themselves (see Vince and Alexander Wang) to create something reminiscent of classic sportswear. Finally, the “fatigue” jacket (like this one from Belstaff) is the one exception to the rule that leather should never hang lower than your hips, and often comes with a belted waist to avoid looking too boxy.Unless you’re stacking serious pocket change, buying a leather jacket is likely to be a major long-term investment, so you’ll want it to last. While it is technically possible to replace things like zips, buttons and buckles if they wear out, doing so is neither cheap nor easy, so save yourself the headache and make sure the hardware is up to scratch before you hand over any green. YKK or RiRi zips are a must – anything less is a con.
Beyond that, be sure to check the quality of the lining. If a jacket is lined with something thin and flimsy, then chances are the leather is cheap and low-grade too. What’s more, if that lining rips, you’re going to have a serious job on your hands to replace it. Check the stitching at the seams both inside and outside for an indication of how many man-hours went into producing it. A good quality jacket will be stitched densely and evenly with strong polyester thread, and should have no loose ends or potential points of weakness to come undone further down the line.1-I received River Road Race Vented Jacket as a Valentine's Day gift from my fiancĂ©. I am just under 5'7" and typically I am a medium, however I found the jacket to be a little shorter than I would have liked in the torso. It fits great through the arms and shoulders. This jacket is excellent for cold weather riding, I'm excited to see what it will be like in summer.
2-They tell you in the video that it fits small, and you should probably be prepared to order one size up.I am 5'9" 185 and about a 39 inch chest, and I typically wear a 40R or smaller jacket. Even so, I ordered the 40 in this jacket along with the 40 in the Twin Iron, which fits larger than expected.
This looks and feels like a great leather jacket. I suspect the vents will provide great air flow, but I only tried it on in my apartment; well in my garage too, sitting on the bike.
The 40 fit me like a glove when standing, but the sleeves were too short when I sat on the bike. Also, when sitting, the torso was very constricted and uncomfortable.
Perhaps the 42 would fit better. The 40 in the Twin Iron and the Baron Retro were so oversized that I don't have much hope for sizing up this jacket. For now, I will keep searching.

Jackets are an essential part of every woman’s wardrobe, whether she sticks to one favorite, or complements her clothing collection with several types. They make great in-between outerwear for the fall or the spring, when a winter coat is too insulated and a summer jacket is too light.A woman’s choice of jacket will vary, depending on her vocation and her general activities. Because jackets are so variable in design and functionality, a jacket that is perfect for one woman may not be suitable for another. The following four general lifestyle choices and jacket suggestions for each may help guide buyers in the right direction as they make their own jacket choice.
There are many different types of jackets for any occasion. Some are very tailored, whereas others are looser and more casual. They can also be made of many material types, including wool, cashmere, linen, nylon, silk, and fabrics made from hemp and bamboo. The color and fabric type will vary depending on the purpose of the jacket, the quality of the piece, and the manufacturer.
The word "jacket" comes from the French word "jaquet," which originally meant "light tunic." Nowadays in France, the word "jaquette" is used to describe a jacket. Jackets are hip or waist length, and are generally worn as outerwear. They are fastened at the front, usually have longer sleeves (though short-sleeved jackets can be found in spring) and are lighter, tighter, and less insulating than a coat.Though the words "jacket" and "coat" are used interchangeably in some circles, they are actually different items of clothing. Coats are traditionally defined as longer garments which are typically long sleeved and can be fashionable or functional. The term "overcoat" applies to a piece of apparel meant for outerwear use only.
The leather jacket category encompasses a range of types, from a looser fit jacket to a very tight, figure hugging style. Leather jackets come in a very wide range of different colors, and can be made from half or full-cut leather.
Perfect Jacket Choices
The active nature of this type of lifestyle, while not as extreme as some, requires a good, functional jacket. Thankfully, choices are not too limited, because this lady is not likely to stray too far into the wilderness. A puffer jacket can be perfect for spring or fall, because it will provide her with insulation against mild cold as she works outside. Other jacket choices might include jean, fleece, or military styles depending on her fashion and personal preference.
Perfect Jacket Choices
City chics have a broad choice of jacket. Because they live in a relatively sheltered area, the purpose-driven role of the jacket can be put on the back burner while fashion choices are explored. Cashmere blazers and bolero jackets, which are totally unsuitable for a farming lifestyle, can be worn in the city. Fashionable leather jackets are also practical from a citychic perspective, because they provide a stylish place to put the car keys and wallet during an errand run.Because of the intrinsic nature of biking, a leather biker jacket is a "must." Leather biker jackets protect the arms, chest, and shoulders in case of a spill, and without them, bones are likely to be broken. In the summer, an alternative jacket might be one made from permeated leather to allow extra air flow, or a multilayer mesh jacket. Mesh jackets can also be useful on a rainy fall day, as many are waterproof..reviews:
1-I am really suprised at how nice River Road Race Vented jacket is! The leather is quite thick and heavy. It comes with an insulated, zip-out liner that keeps me plenty warm while riding at highway speeds in low 50's temps. On warmer days, I remove the liner and use the zipper vents. It provides excellent ventilation through the arm pits. I did have a minor issue. One of the hook-and-loop patches for the inside pocket was not completely sown.
For the money, I don't see how you could beat it. I really like it.
2-I wanted a pair of jackets that I can use with my wife when we ride together, and River Road Race Vented Jacket just what I was looking for.
The fit is good and is very comfortable when you are riding (I purchased the 3XL and M for my wife), the air flows really well when you open the vents, but the best part for me is that when you are down of the bike it looks really nice too.
It’s a really good option in it’s price range.

Artificial leather though cheap it has many pros and cons it may not feel as nice as real leather, is easier to tear or puncture, and doesn't age as well. Some people also find it to be wasteful, since the hides used to make real leather usually come from cows that were going to be killed for meat anyway. Also, many people like the smell of leather, and the luster that it develops but faux leather does not.
It is not always easy to distinguish between faux leather and real leather. It can be quite frustrating to purchase looks like a genuine leather vest, only to later realize it is actually synthetic. Authentic leather is much more expensive than faux, so it is important to tell the difference between the two. Shoppers will be able to easily identify real and faux leather by mastering a few simple tips. Learning how to distinguish real leather from faux leather will ensure an efficient and enjoyable buying experience.has a number of advantages: it can be made into any different type of color or texture, which can be more fashion forward and allow people more freedom when decorating, and it generally costs less. It is also easy to clean, and usually only needs an occasional wipe with a damp cloth, while real leather needs regular conditioning. Additionally, it can be very durable, won't fade as easily in ultra violet (UV) light, and doesn't involve the death of any animals.Synthetic leather was created early in the 20th century, but most early forms were very stiff and not breathable. These qualities meant that the material was not a good choice for products that were likely to be in contact with the skin, like clothing or upholstery. American company DuPont® addressed these issues early in the 1960s with a porous imitation leather, which was gradually improved on, resulting in a fabric that circulates air well and is comfortable to use. Faux leather looks different from real leather in several ways, and also feels and smells different. While real leather usually has visible, irregular pores; rough edges; and forms a pattern of crisscrossing lines when folded, faux leather generally won't. It may have pores printed onto it, but they generally look like a repeating pattern, and the edges are usually plastic-like and smooth. Also, real leather feels smooth and buttery, while the fake version feels like plastic or vinyl. The smell between the two differs as well, since real leather has a very distinctive smell, and faux leather doesn't smell like anything or smells like plastic.

Faux Leather Jacket

Source:- Google.com.pk

Faux leather is one of several names given to artificial or synthetic leather. These names are often used to describe specific end uses of synthetic leather products such as faux leather (sofa, chair and headboard upholstery), leatherette (auto upholstery, clothing), and koskin (consumer goods). There are two primary types of faux leather construction: polyurethane (“PU”), and polyvinyl chloride (PVC – “Vinyl”).
Vinyl synthetic leather has been produced in the United States since the 1940s, initially for products such as shoes, automobile interiors and upholstery. In the late 1950s DuPont and other chemical companies began developing polyurethane products.
Both polyurethane and vinyl synthetic leathers are used in making clothing, upholstery, and product covers, but each is better for certain applications than others. PU fabric is softer, more flexible, and breathable, so it's more commonly used for making high-wear products, like clothing and upholstery (surfaces that come into direct contact with skin). Vinyl is not as breathable as PU, but this is often ideal for products that need to repel moisture such as book bindings or cases for electronic devices.
Vinyl Upholstery
Vinyl upholstery is made from two separate synthetic materials. The fibers of the upholstery are constructed from strong polyester fibers. The fibers are then coated with vinyl, made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and plasticizers (phthalic acid). This vinyl is melted onto the surface of the fibers, sealing them closed and making a virtually waterproof surface that is still flexible and tough.
Vinyl upholstery is easy to clean and maintain. This makes it ideal for situations where cleanliness is a top priority, such as in hospitals and restaurants. Vinyl also does not require any special care or conditioning. However, vinyl can become uncomfortably hot if left in the sun. Skin will stick to the surface, creating an uncomfortable seating situation. Vinyl may also crack with extended use.
Polyurethane Upholstery
PU is made by coating a backing fabric such as cotton, polyester or shredded leather with a flexible polymer and then treating it to look more like animal hide. Polyurethane upholstery is the most realistic imitation of genuine leather, with respect to hand, surface feel, and overall appearance. When stitched, gathered, or tufted it actually “breaks” or wrinkles like real leather. Because there are no plasticizers used in PU upholstery there is no cracking or peeling, and it remains soft and supple for the duration of time it remains on the furniture. They are also easier to decorate designs on them. Polyurethane is considered greener than Vinyl because it does not create dioxins. PU resins are made of a softer polymer and therefore don’t need additional plasticizers. Polyurethane costs less than real leather but it is more expensive to produce than Vinyl.
Benefits of Faux Leather Compared to Real Leather
Faux leather offers a number of advantages compared to real leather. These would include the following:
Economical – Faux leather is typically much more affordable than real leather.
Durability – Faux leather is very durable and will last a long time. It can withstand scratches and scrapes that would mar genuine leather. It is not prone to crack or peel like leather. It will not fade as easily in ultra violet (UV) light and is stain resistant.
Low Maintenance – Faux leather materials can usually be wiped clean with a rag and warm water. Unlike genuine leather, it does not retain moisture, so faux leather items will not become warped or cracked. Some of the new performance faux leathers can remove ink, liquid and food stains with only a dry cloth.
Realistic Quality – Faux leather has been modified and improved with variations in grain, color and textures to reflect a visual appearance with a realistic leather quality.
Consistent Appearance – Faux leather will provide a uniform look since all the pieces come from the same stock.
Fashion - Faux leathers can also be printed providing enormous variety of textures and patterns. In addition, because faux leather is a synthetic material, it can be dyed a rainbow of colors. This fashion forward approach allows for more freedom when decorating residential or commercial interiors.
Easy to Work With – Faux leather is easier to cut and sew than real leather. In addition, needle marks are usually less noticeable and threads blend with the faux leather material more seamlessly.
Disadvantages of Faux Leather Compared to Real Leather
Faux Leather does have some disadvantages when compared to real leather. Faux leather does not stretch, breathe or wear like leather. Faux leather is very durable; however, it does not develop the same luster and patina over time as leather. Faux leather is not puncture or tear resistant like real leather.
